Captivity

Ezekiel 17:19+20 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘As I live, I will bring down on his head My oath that he despised and My covenant that he broke. I will spread My net over him and he will be caught in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment on him there for the treachery he committed against Me.

God tells the nation of Israel that He is about ‘lay down the law’. He is about to bring His judgment on Judah. But His purpose is to purify the nation, not simply to punish them. And what God wants them to do is submit to His plan. His plan to take them into captivity.

Have you ever felt trapped? Maybe by a boss who was a jerk or a co-worker who was an annoyance. Trapped in a relationship, a career, or some life situation. There are time when God takes us into captivity to purify us.

We probably ask God, ‘What are You doing? Why am I here? Get me out of this mess!’ When what we need to ask is, ‘Lord, what do you want to teach me? What do you want to show me?’

There are a thousand different issues or problems that God may be working on in us, far too many to go into here, but the bottom line in each case is ‘purity’. God wants us to be unpolluted and sometimes He needs to isolate us for a while so He can purify us.

If you feel like a prisoner, understand God is working to purify you in the situation. And the best thing you can do is submit to His will, His timing. And if you submit to Him you will flourish. He will prosper you in your captivity.
